Explore Landscapes #51: I've just come back from a wonderful week of hiking, dark sky photography location scouting, and backpacking, in Sequoia National Park.
The Dark Skies festival is amazing. I was there a few years ago and met an astronaut (they had coffee with an astronaut instead of the typical coffee with a ranger). Everyone should meet an astronaut when given the chance.
Very cool photographs and sounds like a great trip. I'd love to visit that park sometime! I was in Big Bend with my brother who has gotten into astrophotography in the last year and he got some really great night photos.
Hey Jacob - thanks - glad you enjoyed the photos. Big Bend is an amazing location for Dark Sky photography - I’ve visited once, but would love to go back.
It’s a great place to visit, though very inaccessible. Long ways from any airport, and a long drive in from anywhere unless you live in west Texas. Worth going if you somehow are in the general area, but definitely difficult to get to unless you have a lot of time.

Hey Joe - that sounds cool. This’ll be my first dark Sky festival and I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be sure to look out for an astronaut to chat to.
The time I went the coffee with a astronaut was at the lodge just off the big camp ground.
What an adventure! Sounds like you had a great time. Such a wonderful area. Great photographs.
Hey Susanne - I had a great time thanks. Being out in nature for a week was restorative - and just what I needed.

Looks like a lovely BD. Beautiful photos.
Thanks Brenda … a week’s wilderness retreat was a wonderful way to round out my BD week …
